The History of Wooden Flooring
For hundreds of years, many homes flooring was made from hardened dirt or stone – The former went to the poor, the latter to the rich.
We do, however, have evidence of early wood flooring fashioned from cut logs – Though, these floors were few are far between.
Early medieval wood flooring would involve the placement of logs into the ground as a foundation for the home. These logs would be half-cut, with the flat side facing upwards.
Wood flooring as we know it today surfaced in Europe during the 17th Century. Wealthy people would hire artisans to install intricate parquet floors.
