Don’t Cut Corners!

Don’t Cut Corners!

A big fat corner sofa is one of today’s essential luxuries, at least it feels like it should be essential, especially once you have had one. It’s a place to spread out, or gather with the family, somewhere to sprawl with the papers or a good book, or cuddle up with your other half with Netflix at the ready.

There are two main types of corner groups – ones that are all seating and ones that have what is called a ‘chaise end’ (basically a long sticky-out bit at one end that you can put your feet up on). Many now also come with recliner options for that extra bit of luxurious comfort. They are usually sold as modular units that are fixed together, so you can add as many sections as space (and your pocket!) permits, bear in mind that they are also usually left or right-hand facing, so you need to work out which way the sofa will face in your room. There is nothing worse than having waited several weeks for the sofa to be made for it to arrive facing the wrong way.

We have a number of corner sofa ranges available here in the store, and it is a good idea to discuss what you think you need with one of our experienced sales team. You have no idea how many different options some ranges have, navigating it all can be a bit of a nightmare for the inexperienced. It’s not just the number of units you need, but what feet finish, what sort of seat cushion interiors and where you might what any reclining options just to start. Some have the option to add extra headrests, others different arm widths – need I go on?!

Corner SofasWhilst some companies have produced amazing photography to help promote their ranges, some smaller ones put all their energy into producing beautiful sofas. One that springs to mind is the Horncliffe range – this British made collection is beautifully made with many bespoke options and all available in a choice of fabulous fabrics. Our online listing does not do it justice; you really need to see it (and sit on it) to appreciate it. Another British-made gem is the Venice sofa collection. Venice is one of our best-selling models, and looks wonderful in some of the plush velvets available. The corner options mean you can create a real show-stopper for your room.

If you want to add some recliner options, G Plan are worth a look. Their Firth collection has a number modular units to choose from and two sizes of recliners. Firth’s smart, clean lines give it a timeless elegance and its high back and gently curving arms offer premium levels of comfort. You can choose from a range of fabrics and real leathers.
Ercol ForliFor a Mid-Century Modern look, with echoes of the 1950s, go for Ercol’s new Forli sofa. This recent addition to the Ercol family is a stunner and designed with the more compact home in mind. Forli is a ‘chaise end’ sofa and is available in a range of contemporary textured and plush fabrics which create a dramatic backdrop for the beautifully turned solid oak leg details (these are available in a natural or dark finish).

If you want to inject some colour into your room, Fama’s Arianne Love is definitely the answer. Choose from a wide range of different fabrics for each modular unit to create some wow factor. Fama have some lovely fabrics available, and you can keep it calm and neutral or go bold and dynamic – the choice is yours. Add footstools for extra comfort – these come in a several shapes and sizes so you can have some fun with these too.

For a touch of urban sophistication have a look at  Stressless®’s recent sofa collections. Their Stella sofas are extremely covetable, and available in their full range of high quality leathers. Stella has their BalanceAdapt™ system built in, this allows the seat to move with you creating a gentle rocking motion which helps balance and increases the overall comfort. Recline, lean forward or lay down and put your feet up – you will feel how the soft and generous seat adapts to your every movement. When you don’t want any movement the function can be locked. The legs are available in chrome or matt black and there is a choice of arm widths as well as the option to add a comfortable headrest or two.
