Chesterfield

This is the very best of handmade English furniture. Each piece is made to order and begins it’s life as a solid 2 inch thick slice from a beech tree, this is then formed into the most solid frame available, which is glued, screwed and doweled for a really strong framework.. We then move through to our upholstery workshop where the springs are hand tied into the frame and the fillings applied. All natural fillings are used and they are as close to the original and traditional way as possible. We use, ‘horsehair’, and cotton wadding which ensure that your fillings stay in place and result in a truly luxurious feel. Once the fillings are all in place and secure, we then upholster the leather onto the frame. Frames –all our frames are made from solid, seasoned two inch beech wood. They are built to be strong and robust to withstand all aspects of a real home. We glue, screw and dowel the frames together. Coil springs – these are all hand tied within the seat and back of the Chesterfield to ensure a really high level of comfort and strength. These are the best available currently on the market. Cotton Wadding – this is used in place of foam as it is a natural fibre and gives an authentic feel. Horse hair – This is no longer specifically horse hair and now tends to be a large percentage of wild boar hair, but is again a natural product and one which most Chesterfield no longer use due to cost and skill required for application. Jute webbing – this is used to shore up the coil springs and is the thickest and strongest available. Leather – This is a full aniline hide which has been treated with an oiled finish. There are natural markings on the leather as the hide has not been corrected in any way. The natural markings and scars can still be seen and are an inherent part of the furniture. This is real leather and will only look better with time. Lots of colours and finishes are available. Buttons – we make all our own buttons in the workshop and these are made from the same hide as the item of furniture to ensure that these match exactly. Cushions – These are duck feather and down, (but other variations are available). These are filled in channels and so are designed to re-plump after sitting.
